BP Justice Now! is a non-profit, non-partisan project that was created to provide information about the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion and its aftermath. It is a project of the Center for Justice & Democracy at New York Law School.
The Deepwater Horizon explosion is the nation’s worst environmental disaster. The explosion itself caused the deaths of 11 workers and injuries for many more. The resulting oil spill and clean up attempts have caused profound ecological damage, untold human health problems and hundreds of billions of dollars in economic losses for the region. Hundreds of thousands of individuals and small businesses have been harmed.
Update: If you are part of the class action filed against BP, you may know that recently BP tried to get out of compensating businesses under the settlement agreement that BP itself agreed to in 2012. BP's payments to businesses stopped for a time as lawyers for the victims fought back. BP has now lost this effort, the victims have won, and payments can begin again.
